It suffers from poorer barrier properties and susceptibility to environmental stress cracking, though this can be mitigated by adjusting molecular structure. PET’s lightweight nature reduces transportation costs and environmental impact, offering long-term economic and ecological benefits despite higher initial cost. Choosing between PET and HDPE depends on balancing transparency, strength, temperature needs, barrier requirements, and cost efficiency.
