High-density polyethylene (HDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) are two widely used polyethylene variants with distinct molecular structures, leading to significant differences in properties and applications. HDPE features a linear, highly crystalline structure, resulting in high strength, rigidity, density (0.941–0.965 g/cm³), and resistance to heat and chemicals. It is ideal for durable products like pipes, chemical tanks, and rigid containers. In contrast, LDPE has a highly branched, amorphous structure, yielding lower density (0.910–0.925 g/cm³), greater flexibility, transparency, and elongation, making it suitable for films, packaging, and flexible items like bags and tubing. Processing methods differ accordingly: HDPE is commonly extruded, injected, or blow-molded for structural parts, while LDPE excels in blown film and foaming processes. Their unique characteristics enable targeted use across industries—from construction and agriculture to consumer goods and medical applications.
